Low Level Laser Therapy
Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) has been shown to have numerous beneficial
applications. Over 2,500 studies have shown health improvement through the
use of LLLT. We use it in our dental practice because of its beneficial action
with regard to treatment and relaxation of muscles of mastication or chewing
muscles (see description of DDS syndrome) and irritated and painful teeth. Sometimes
it can even take the place of local anesthetic because of its reduction of pain
by the body’s
production of endorphins, according to Dr. Morton Walker.
Advantages of LLLT
- Reduction or elimination of pain
- Disappearance of swelling, redness and heat
- Diminished inflammation
- Increase in lymphatic drainage
- Increase of blood circulation
- Flow of healing enzymes into a traumatized area
- Release of muscle spasm
- Speeding of bone repair
- Stimulation of fibroblastic and osteoblastic proliferation
- Reduction of joint stiffness
